Dr. Jian-Guo Zhang
Conference Local Chairperson
Regent College London
UK
Dr. Zhang brings over 35 years of research experience in optical fiber communications and avionics optical data buses. For the past 18 years, his work has focused on ultrafast optical signal processing, ultrashort pulse generation, waveform monitoring, and optical sampling oscilloscopes. He has led or co-led 10 major collaborative R&D projects and supervised numerous PhD students.
His career includes roles at Chengdu Aircraft Company, the Asian Institute of Technology, Helsinki University of Technology, and London South Bank University, where he served until 2024 and now continues as a Visiting Fellow. He also established two joint research groups at the State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics & Photonics in China and led engineering developments in optical sampling systems and radio-over-fiber links.
Dr. Zhang will join Regent College London in May 2025. He has authored over 180 scientific publications and is a recipient of multiple international awards. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (UK) and The Higher Education Academy, and serves on various editorial boards.
Research Interests:
Optical fiber systems, ultrafast optical processing, microwave photonics, gain-switched and mode-locked lasers, optical sampling, and avionics optical networks.
